[comp.misc] kudos for NCSA telnet over Token Ring

mercer@npdiss1.StPaul.NCR.COM (Dan Mercer) (11/22/90)

A lot of times we hear flames of products and programs here on the
net (God knows I'm one of the worst offenders). I just thought I
would pass along a kudos for the authors of NCSA telnet and
particularly the author of the Token Ring drivers. WOW!!! What a
great product!!! I've spent months trying to get my PC hooked into
our NCR Tower (where I do about half my work) which runs TCP-IP so I
can also get out at the net. The other half of my work involves using
WordPerfect on our local Novell Token Ring network. This involved
using different device drivers to:

A: get to one Tower running netbios so I could kermit to the Tower
	   running TCP-IP or
B: get the second Tower to run both Netbios and TCP-IP (was not
	   successful) and
C: rebooting with new device drivers to run Novell (yes, I could
load them both, but afterwards didn't have enough memory left
	   over to adequately run WordPerfect).

Anyways, NCSA Telnet fixed everything - no more rebooting - no
intermediary hosts needed for telnet or ftp.

Now, if I can just get the nameserver running.

Thanks much,
