Hello there! Does anyone know if there's a FTP-site containing weather data anywhere in the whole wide world? The data I need is something like day-to-day updates on temperature, wind, (speed, direction), rain (how much), sky (cloudy/clear etc..), etc... If you know of a site containing information like these, please e-mail: ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| | Martin Petersen | "I was only kidding - we are zombie@daimi.aau.dk | Dept of Computer Science | going to die anyway !!!!" | Aarhus University | -Ford Prefect |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The newsgroups seem to be linked into a telex terminal of some sort (you can tell by the fact that the text is only in uppercase, the limits on the characters used and most of all, by the line-noise errors that appear in the reports!). Anyway, if you don't mind the occasional errors, you can subscribe to these lists through Internet or Bitnet by sending a message to the following email address: For Bitnet: LISTSERV@UIUCVMD For Internet: LISTSERV%UIUCVMD.BITNET@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU In your message, put the following command(s) to subscribe to the newsgroup(s): SUBSCRIBE NEWSGROUP_NAME Your_Full_Name Replace the words "Your_Full_Name" with your first and last name and replace the word "NEWSGROUP_NAME" with one of the newsgroups you wish to subscribe to. The following are the names of the newsgroups for weather information: NEWSGROUP NAME DESCRIPTION ---------------- ----------------------- WX-LSR ................ Local Storm Reports WX-MISC ............... Miscellaneous WX Products WX-NATNL .............. National weather summary WX-PCPN ............... Precipitation WX products WX-SPOT ............... A discussion for WX spotters WX-STLT ............... Satellite interpretive messages WX-SWO ................ Severe weather outlooks WX-TALK ............... General WX discussions WX-TROPL .............. Tropical storm warnings WX-WATCH .............. WX watches and cancellations WX-WSTAT .............. WX watch status and storm reports Once you have subscribed to one or more of these lists, you should receive a reply from the Listserver of your subscription. NOTE: BE PREPARED FOR A LARGE INFLUX OF DATA! All of the weather news lists receive large amounts of data and you can expect up to 20 or more messages a day depending on how many of these newsgroups you subscribe to. If you decide that you would like to get off one of the newsgroups later, simply send a message to the Listserver with the command: SIGNOFF NEWSGROUP_NAME - I hope this helps you out!
