I have a client who has a need for a combination of UNIX and DOS
systems, and plenty of network stuff to make them try to work together.
The specific details of the proposals to very lengthy.
The client has narrowed it down to two companies:
1) Choreo Systems, proposing Compaq Systempro 486 (dual processor) boxes
using SCO UNIX for the larger needs, and smaller Compaqs for other
purposes;
2) Data General, proposing a dual-RISC Aviion for the largest system and
smaller Aviions and DG-branded 386 clones for the rest.
Two questions:
1) The client has made Choreo's proposal contingent on the ability to
TOTALLY disable the C2 security from SCO UNIX (we are told that option
will be introduced shortly). Notwithstanding this, has anyone had any
major problems with either Aviion servers or Compaqs running MPX?
2) Does anyone on the net have any medium- or long-term experience with
Choreo or DG? We know about DG a bit (not for Aviions, but for their
"Dasher" UNIX 386 systems).
Please mail replies. Thanks.
