[comp.misc] Origins of WORDS Dictionary

I've just got hold of a very large dictionary file which is available
from a few bulletin boards and shareware suppliers in the UK.

It has no accompanying documentation, and I wonder if anyone knows
about it's origin. Is it public domain or copyright? Is it based on
any particular published dictionary?

The file contains 234932 words and seems to be of US origin: it
includes "color" but not "colour", for example. It starts:

        A
        a
        aa
        aal
        aalii
        aam
        Aani
        aardvark
        aardwolf
        Aaron
        ... ...
