[comp.misc] Tandon 486/33 EISA

jham@mcs213f.cs.umr.edu (John Ham) (02/18/91)

Does anybody out there have a Tandon 486/33 EISA machine? I am considering
purchasing one but I would like to know from other Tandon customers what
their experiences have been. Particularly, are Tandon machines reliable?
Is the technical support any good? Is there documentation any good? Do
they stand behind their warranty?

Questions specific to the 486/33 EISA are:
1) For the IDE drives, is the controller a 32 bit bus master controller?
with cache? Does this cause any problems with software you run?
Will Norton 5.0 choke on IDE drives? Does low-level formatting/
partitioning software come with the unit? I asked the sales dude
but he seemed to be lost and just kept saying "uh huh".

2) If you bought again, would you buy Tandon again? why? ISA instead?

Please email your reply to me at jham@cs.umr.edu, and I will post a
summary of responses. If you bought somebody else's 486/33 EISA tell
me about it, good or bad. The other machines I am looking at are
ZEOS and Northgate, but their sales folks seemed to be constantly angry,
and that makes me nervous. Thanks - John Ham
