Following the invasion of Earth by the Thargs in 2024, they encountered such heavy resistance that it was decided to start the invasion earlier than had been planned. Following unsuccesful attempts to replicate American politicians in 1989,it was realised that overheating of the supercooled circuits located in the groin was the reason. The Thargs therefore decided to replicate humanoids in countries with less restrictive insulation requirements on this area of the body, and commenced with Edinburgh University. As the world discovered in the Flatulation Wars of 2029 - 2033, when King Billy Connolly led the unsuccessful storming of Stirling Castle, the first such replica to achieve near - normal behavious was D S Potter. It is believed that 287 people attempted to answer his first message, received in 1991. 286 of them vanished and reappeared again in 1999, totally brain-dead and were forced to enter a career in politics to earn a decent wage.
