[comp.misc] The Soundex algorithm ...

   I am wanting ideas for an alternative to the Soundex algorithm (D. E. Knuth,
"The Art of Programming", vol.3). If anyone out there does name searching in
databases (e.g. genealogy, police departments, hospitals, etc.). I'd like to
hear of techniques used (references to articles would be useful!).

Also include problems you have with the techniques, as this will point out
bad features of the method.
