The really ironic part about the infamous Hayes modem escape sequence is that it *didn't* always avoid confusion with actual data. Long ago, a company called TSC wrote an operating system for the 6800 called FLEX. (Later, they did a 6809 version, and then did an at least somewhat Unix-like OS called UniFlex, which still exists.) The prompt for the user was, of all things, "+++". Also long ago, there was an Oklahoma City 6809 Users Group, which had a dialup system that, I believe, ran under FLEX, and like FLEX, the prompt for the user was "+++". Under the right circumstances, that would appear with appropriate timing to confuse the modem that the system used. James Jones
