[comp.misc] smart cards

Can anyone give me any information on the current state of technology in 
storage of data?

I'm particularly interested in smart cards..

E.G.  Do they look like memory to the cpu, or do they look like a device?
      What sort of access times are involved
      What is the physical size/weight of both the cards and the reader/writer
      What sort of storage capacity do they have?
      Approx price?
      Is it writeable infinitely?
      What sort of power does it consume?
 

Any information would be appreciated.
