[comp.misc] FTP & TFTP...

cbourn@anselm.UUCP (C.J. Bourn) (06/14/91)

once again i am into the net looking for help...my boss asked me today
to look into finding references to FTP and TFTP, which are File Transport
Protocol and Trivial File Transport Protocol. i am also looking for code for
TFTP. if anyone knows anything out there i am eternally grateful. for a
little more info here is a clipping:

The DARPA Internet protocol suite includes a file transport
protocol, FTP. FTP allows authorized users to log into a remote system,
identify themselves, list remote directories, copy files to or from the
remote machine, and execute a few simple commands remotely (e.g., to
obtain help with the remote machine file name syntax). In addition many
implementations provide statistics on transfer rates and diagnostic aids
like packet tracing.
A second DARPA protocol provides a Trivial File Transport
Protocol, TFTP, intended for applications where the complex interactive
environment is not needed. For example, manufacturers of diskless
workstations can encode TFTP in read-only memory chips (ROM), and use it
to obtain an initial memory image when the machine is powered on. The
program in ROM is called the system _bootstrap_. The advantage of using
TFTP is that it allows bootstrapping code to use the same underlying
internet protocols that the running system uses.

Thanks to anyone who can help me. please respond to me at ...!dartvax!
