Information from a year-old-and-a-half-old company brochure describes SoftSwitch as 'an enterprise connectivity vendor' -- providing hardware and software products (and accompanying services) to contruct e-mail backbones. The product you mentioned might be their OSI-based X.400 Gateway (running on a Unix platform). Again - from that company's brochure -- their products accommodate SMTP, DEC Message Router, IBM PROFS, Wang OFFICE, HP Desk, and the protocols used on 3Com, Novell, and Banyan LANS.
