I had a few requests for this. Sorry if I'm boring anyone; please let me know if I'm overdoing it. Whenever I remember to do it, I'm putting [...] in place of deletions, but I'm not very consistent about it. My selection represents ca. 50% of the original. Enjoy. ====================================================================== NASA SPACELINK A Space-Related Informational Database Provided by the NASA Educational Affairs Division [I asked, just in case...] You have received a message from NASA: ====== The material on NASA Spacelink is in the public domain. ====== Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Processing Reports =============================================== THURSDAY, APRIL 28, 1988 ------------------------ STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1 Leak checks of the main propulsion system are underway today. A frequency response test of the main engines is planned for this evening. Preparations are continuing for the Crew Equipment Interface Test (CEIT) scheduled this weekend. [...] Operations to ready the Ku-band antenna for flight are underway. Installation of thermal barriers on the nose landing gear doors is continuing. Eight of 13 midbody bays have been closed out for flight. STS-27 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2 Testing of the brakes is continuing this week. STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF Yesterday, Rockwell technicians began the crew escape modifications on Columbia. STS-26 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF Yesterday a successful leak check was performed between the newly mated left aft center and left forward center field joint. Prior to the leak check, a visual inspection of the j-seal bondline was performed by lowering a Morton Thiokol technician down the center of the boosters. The j-seal is a new feature of the redesigned solid rocket motors designed to keep hot gas from impinging the o-rings. [...] The right aft booster is scheduled to be moved to the VAB early next week where it will be stacked on the mobile launcher platform with the left SRB. Monday, May 2, 1988 ------------------- STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1 Operations are proceeding on the Orbiter Discovery for rolling over to the Vehicle Assembly Building the end of the month. Over the weekend the STS-26 flight crew made their inspections of Discovery and performed their in-flight maintenance procedures as part of the Crew Equipment Interface Test. Overall the flight crew was pleased and no significant problems were reported. Technicians have installed about 30 of the 36 thermal barriers on the nose landing gear doors. [...] STS-27 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2 Orbiter modifications scheduled this week include crew escape, adding protection for wiring in the aft compartment, installing instrumentation for the RTV heat sink modification, improving the elevon cove seal, hooking up the modified liquid oxygen 17-inch external tank disconnect valve, and beefup of the wings. Main engine heat shields have been installed in preparation for the helium test. [...] STS-26 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF In the VAB, mating the left forward segment to the left stack is planned today as technicians install the field joint assembly fixture (FJAF) - a new tool required to mate the tighter fitting redesigned joints. After the mating is complete, the right aft booster will be hoisted over and placed atop the mobile launcher platform scheduled for tomorrow. Eric
