=================================================================== Friday, June 3, 1988 STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1 Activities are underway to ready the Space Shuttle Discovery for the upcoming STS-26 mission. Orbiter closeouts are active on all areas of the orbiter. The payload bay doors are closed while thermal protection system technicians examine the hinges and their protective covers. A functional test of the payload bay doors is planned for today. Preparations for leak checks of the hydraulic system and the landing gear functional test are scheduled today. Discovery is scheduled to be rolled to the VAB the end of next week. STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2 Technicians are scheduled to deploy the radiators today and will continue with orbiter modifications including crew escape, chin panel, elevon cove seal improvements and installing instrumentation for the RTV heat sink modification. STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF Power down modifications scheduled today include crew escape and installation of RTV heat sink strips. Technicians will inspect an auxiliary power unit gaseous nitrogen fuel tank line and repair a cold plate. STS-26 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB Closeout operations are underway on the STS-26 solid rocket booster field joints. During closeout activities, technicians bond instrumentation, heaters, sensors, install a moisture seal and bond cork to the outside of the joint. After the joints are closed out, the external tank will be attached to the SRBs. Monday preparations are scheduled to begin for mating the external tank and the mate is scheduled for next Wednesday. =================================================================== Monday, June 6, 1988 An integrated launch simulation is scheduled tomorrow with a call-to-stations at 6 a.m. All lead launch team members for STS- 26 are required to participate in this test. The simulated T-0 is scheduled for 9:50 a.m. and there is a one-hour window. STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1 Functional tests of the main landing gear and the payload bay doors were successfully conducted over the weekend. Many of the main propulsion system closeouts were accomplished over the weekend. A sharp edge inspection of the orbiter's payload bay is planned this week. Astronauts will inspect the orbiter for any sharp edges that may snag a space suit if an unplanned space walk became necessary during the STS-26 mission. Thermal protection system operations are active on all areas of the orbiter. Technicians are repairing tiles and installing gap fillers and taking measurements of the tiles. Rollover of the orbiter to the VAB is scheduled for no earlier than late next week. STS-27 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2 Power down operations are scheduled until Wednesday while the Firing Rooms are being used for power on testing of Discovery and for tomorrow's Integrated Launch Simulation. Thermal control blankets inside the orbiter are being measured to make sure they are the proper thickness. Technicians are performing inspections of the right hand radiator. This week leak checks of gaseous nitrogen lines and water lines in the shuttle's environmental control system are scheduled. STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF Installation and inspections of cold plates are planned this week. Modifications scheduled this week include crew escape and RTV heat sink. Routine structural inspections are also planned. STS-26 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB Closeouts of the STS-26 solid rocket boosters continued through the weekend and are active today. Preparations for mating the external tank to the SRBs began today with the actual mating of the tank planned for early Wednesday morning. Three of the solid rocket motor segments for STS-27 arrived by rail car yesterday and offload operations are scheduled today at the Rotation Processing and Surge Facility. Stacking is scheduled to begin the end of next month. =================================================================== Eric
