A successful integrated launch simulation was conducted
yesterday with members of the Mission Management Team,
launch/flight teams and support teams. The T-0 came at about
10:45 a.m. and the simulated mission ended with a Return-To-
Launch-Site abort landing at KSC.

           STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Closeouts of the orbiter are continuing on all areas of the
shuttle in preparation for rolling over to the Vehicle Assembly
Building next week. Preparations for cleaning the payload bay are
in work today and cleaning is scheduled to start tonight.

Retesting of main engine connectors is scheduled today.
Thermal protection system operations are continuing on all areas
of the orbiter. Part of the closeouts include retesting various
orbiter components prior to rollout.

           STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2

Power up testing is planned today. Operations scheduled
today include leak checks of the fuel cell plant manifold,
installation of a shelf that holds black boxes, chin panel
modifications, crew escape and elevon cove seal.

              STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF

Powered down modifications scheduled are crew escape, RTV
heat sink and electrical modifications in the aft compartment.

STS-26 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

Cork that was bonded to the top two field joints on the
right hand solid rocket booster is now in the cure cycle. This is
the last of the SRB joint closeout operations. Meanwhile,
preparations are underway to hook the crane to the STS-26
external tank. Lifting the tank out of its storage cell and over
to high bay 3 is scheduled to begin at midnight.

           STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Closeouts of all orbiter systems are continuing in
preparation for moving Discovery to the Vehicle Assembly Building
scheduled for next week. A sharp edge inspection was conducted
yesterday by members of the astronaut corp to check for sharp
edges in the orbiter and payload bay that could snag a space suit
in the event of an unplanned space walk. The inspection revealed
a few concerns which are being worked today.

Technicians are scheduled to begin thoroughly cleaning the
payload bay tonight. Testing of the heads up display (HUD)
revealed a bad power drive unit (PDU) in the pilot's HUD. The PDU
will be replaced and retested. Technicians are also preparing the
orbiter's thermal protection system for flight including bonding
and repairing tiles, preparing the leading edges, taking
measuremetns and verifying bonded tiles.

           STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2

Power up testing is scheduled this week. Yesterday,
technicians checked out the heads up display and today
inspections of the radiators are planned. Orbiter modifications
continuing include crew escape, chin panel, elevon cove seal
improvements and electrical modifications.

              STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF

Powered down orbiter modifications scheduled today include
crew escape, 17-inch external tank disconnect and RTV heat sink.

       STS-26 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS/EXTERNAL TANK - VAB

Today technicians hooked the crane to the external tank in
preparation for moving it out of its checkout cell and into
position next to the solid rocket boosters on the launch
platform.

           STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Preparations are underway to transfer the Shuttle Discovery
from its processing hangar to the Vehicle Assembly Building next
week. Ongoing activities include closeouts in all areas of the
shuttle. Today technicians are scheduled to install the forward
external tank yoke assembly, and begin cleaning the payload bay.

Tonight the orbiter's aerosurfaces will be positioned for
rollover. The rudder speed brake and the body flap have been
closed out for flight. The external tank doors will also be
positioned for rollover.

           STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2

Leak checks of gaseous nitrogen water lines in the
envirnomental control system are continuing today. Interface
verification testing of the flight controls was completed with
the use of a simulator. Preparations are underway to install a
shelf that holds electronic boxes. Technicians are scheduled to
clean under the radiators today.

Orbiter modifications continuing are crew escape, chin
panel, improvements to the elevon cove seal and adding protection
for wiring in the aft compartment.

              STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF

Powered down orbiter modifications scheduled today are crew
escape, RTV heat sink and 17-inch disconnect.

STS-26 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS/ EXTERNAL TANK - VAB

Another milestone toward launch was accomplished overnight.
Workers hoisted the 154 foot-tall external tank across the
transfer aisle last night and the tank was "soft mated" by early
this morning. Today technicians will finish connecting the struts
that hold the tank and boosters together.
