KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT FOR - Thurs. July 14, 1988
STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - PAD 39-B
The hypergolic propellant loading operation was completed
last night at Pad 39-B. Today an "all systems" test of the solid
rocket motors is scheduled. This test verifies the boosters'
electrical systems and the instrumentation. During the test,
events that occur during launch countdown, flight and splashdown
will be conducted and verified as an integrated system.
Other activities at pad B today include a fit check of the
crew escape system pole and closeouts of the aft compartment in
preparation for the Flight Readiness Firing. The 22-second test
firing of Discovery's main engines remains scheduled for Monday,
July 25 with the T-0 at 7:30 a.m.
The "wet" countdown tanking test, which precedes the FRF, is
scheduled to begin Tuesday night at 11:30 p.m. at the T-43 hour
mark. During the test the external tank will be loaded with it
flight complement of one half million gallons of liquid hydrogen
and liquid oxygen. The T-0 is planned for 7 a.m. Friday, July 22.
STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Operations scheduled today include testing of the power
reactant storage and distribution system, cycling the external
tank doors for thermal protection system operations, checks of
the closed circuit television system and orbiter modifications.
Preparations for leak and functional testing of the auxiliary
power units are underway today.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF
Orbiter modifications such as crew escape, RTV heat sink and
improvements to the orbiter's electrical power distribution
system and thermal protection system operations are continuing as
scheduled.
STS-27 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - RPSF
"Build up" operations are active on both the left and right
aft boosters. The nozzle extension was installed on the left
booster and stiffener rings are being installed on the right
booster. Mobile Launcher Platform 1 was moved into VAB high bay 3
yesterday in preparation for stacking operations scheduled to
begin the end of the month.
