Space Shuttle Status Update Tuesday, August 2, 1988 2:30 p.m. On Pad B engineers entered the tail service mast at 10:00 a.m. this morning to begin trouble shooting the liquid hydrogen leak on the T-0 umbilical. A trouble shooting stratgey and associated plan of action has been developed and is being implemented at this time. A mass spectrometer is in position to assist in the leak search. Seals and flex hoses are being replaced, attach points are being checked, and fittings are being torqued down. The procedure to investigate and resolve areas of leakage shows that a Flight Readiness Firing on Thursday is achievable and at this time the plan is on schedule. The progress being made will be monitored on a continuing basis. If the existing timeline can be achieved the call to stations for the launch team is 4:25 p.m. Wednesday.
