KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT FOR - Tues. Aug. 23, 1988
STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - PAD 39-B
Pad 39-B was closed early this morning while the Tracking
and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) is being loaded with onboard
propellant. This operation is scheduled to continue through
midnight.
Three other hazardous activities planned this week also
require the pad to be cleared:
Tomorrow, the TDRS hydrazine tank is scheduled to be
pressurized. Thursday, the orbiter's auxiliary power units and
the solid rocket booster hydraulic power units will be serviced
with hydrazine for flight.
Friday ordnance devices will be installed on the Inertial
Upper Stage. These are small explosive charges that will separate
the IUS and TDRS about 13 hours after deployment from Discovery's
payload bay.
STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Technicians are setting up operations in bay 2 for the
installation of the left orbital maneuvering system pod. The pod
is currently at the Hypergolic Maintenance Facility being
prepared for transfer to the OPF. The installation is planned for
next week. The third main engine is scheduled to be installed
shortly after the OMS pod. Orbiter systems testing and thermal
protection system modifications are continuing.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 1
Structural inspections and return-to-flight modifications
are continuing. Thermal protection system operations are
underway.
STS-27 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF
The field joint assembly fixture is scheduled to be
installed today on the right aft center segment in preparation
for mating to the right aft booster. The right forward center
segment is scheduled to be transferred from the RPSF to the VAB
transfer aisle today. Workers are preparing the right forward
segment in the RPSF.
Joint closeouts are active on the left booster including
installing the electrical joint heaters, checking out the heaters
and installing cork over the joint.
