KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT FOR - Wed. Aug. 24, 1988
STS-26 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - PAD 39-B
Yesterday, the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) was
loaded with hydrazine and today the spacecraft will go through
final pressurization. Engineers will monitor the tank pressure
for any decay. Launch Pad 39-B will be closed while the
pressurization is underway.
Tomorrow the orbiter's auxiliary power units and the solid
rocket booster's hydraulic power units will be loaded with
hydrazine. Friday, ordnance devices will be installed on the
Inertial Upper Stage (IUS). These are small explosive charges
that will be used to separate the TDRS spacecraft from the IUS.
TDRS is scheduled to be installed into Discovery's payload
bay Monday and spacecraft to orbiter interface checks will
commence.
STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Preparations are underway to install both orbital
maneuvering system pods next week. Other activities scheduled are
check out of the water spray boilers and preparations for potable
water servicing. Thermal protection system operations are
underway.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 1
Orbiter inspections and return-to-flight modifications are
continuing as scheduled. Thermal protection system operations are
active.
STS-27 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF
The right aft center segment is hard mated to the right
stack. Preparations for mating the right forward center segment
are underway in the VAB transfer aisle today. Workers are
preparing the right forward segment in the RPSF for transfer to
the VAB. Meanwhile, closeouts of the left hand field joints are
active.
