[sci.space.shuttle] Shuttle preparation crew rotation?

mears@hpindda.HP.COM (David B. Mears) (09/24/88)

Here's a question that may be a stupid (or naive) question, but I've not
seen it addressed here before, so I'll stick my neck out and ask it.

From reading the daily status bulletins posted here (interesting stuff!)
and even without having read it, it is pretty obvious that many tasks
are being performed on several orbiters in parallel. I.e. several
orbiters are being worked on at the same time. Now, do the work crews
stay with a single task and rotate between orbiters as they perform
their designated task, or do the work crews get assigned to a single
orbiter and execute all the tasks for that orbiter before picking up a
later flight?

In other words, is shuttle preparation handled by the Henry Ford model
of the production line, or the Rolls Royce model of the production crew?
