If one makes changes to the Unix kernel, and wishes to market it, what are the legalities involved, and political/social ramifications? Does anyone know the best way to go about doing this? #Ron ..genrad!mit-eddie!ronnie

For such legal questions, you should be talking to AT&T Software Sales & Marketing (800)828-UNIX. The general answer seems to be that anything derived from UNIX Sources is subject to the terms of your license with AT&T. If you have a Value-Added Reseller agreement then the AT&T slice of each system you sell is reasonably small. The social ramifications are, if you make a mess then you will be flamed at by the UNIX community.
