           KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1988



                     STS-27  -  ATLANTIS (0V 104)  -  OPF BAY 2

               STS-27 crew members Jerry Ross and Bill Shepherd will
          participate in a crew equipment interface test today.  X-ray
          inspections of the main propulsion system have been completed.
          Orbiter aft closeout is ongoing.  OMS pod redundancy tests
          continue.  Technicians will change out the second of three
          redundant navigation units used during orbiter entry, TACAN No.2,
          which is located in the crew compartment middeck avionics bay.  A
          helium signature test to verify the integrity of the orbiter's
          main propulsion system is scheduled for this weekend.  A special
          boroscope inspection of the flash evaporator system used to cool
          the orbiter has been scheduled next week.

                        STS-28  -  COLUMBIA (OV 102)  -  OMRF

               Columbia was towed from OPF Bay 1 to the Orbiter Maintenance and
          Refurbishment Facility at 10:22 a.m. EDT., to make room for Discovery following its return to KSC this weekend.


            STS-26 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS DISASSEMBLY -  HANGAR AF, CCAFS

               Right and left aft skirts have been removed and transferred
          to the thrust vector control facility for deservicing by USBI
          technicians.  The forward skirts are scheduled for removal this
          weekend.  Both right and left aft segments are scheduled for
          demate early next week.
