KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT FOR - Thursday, Oct. 13, 1988

                     STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2

Technicians are cleaning the payload bay today in
preparation for closing the doors for the rollover next week.
Cycling of the nose and main landing gears is planned today to
allow adjustments of the tiles and thermal barriers in those
          areas.

Eight tile cavities were reported this morning. Work is
continuing on thermal protection systems operations to ready the
vehicle for the move to the Vehicle Assembly Building.

Other work to be completed prior to moving Atlantis to the
VAB includes a functional test of the landing gear, an overall
structural leak check of the vehicle and final inspections.

Atlantis is scheduled to be transferred to the VAB no
earlier than 12:01 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21. There it will be hoisted
up into the high bay and mated to its external tank and twin
solid rocket boosters. That activity will be followed by a test
of the critical connections for a total time in the VAB of about
          seven days.

                       STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Discovery was powered up yesterday and the payload bay doors
were opened. The tailcone is scheduled to be removed later
today. Post-flight thermal protection system inspections are
underway. Next week, the three main engines will be removed and
taken to the engine shop in the VAB where the high pressure
oxidizer turbo pumps and low pressure fuel ducts will be
          replaced.

                        STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF

Powered down modifications are scheduled while Columbia is
in the Orbiter Modification and Refurbishment Facility.

STS-26 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - HANGAR AF

Post flight inspections are underway at Hangar AF. The two
aft segments are being prepared for shipment back to Utah for
          refurbishment.
