KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - WEDNESDAY, OCT. 26, 1988
STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - VAB HIGH BAY 3
Engineers are evaluating data obtained from the measurements
of the main engine injector faceplate. Preliminary indications
are that the measurements are within specifications and
acceptable. However, an official decision will be made after the
data is evaluated.
Yesterday, technicians finished the electrical and
mechanical connections of the tail service masts to the orbiter.
Today workers are finishing the mating operations and closing out
the necessary areas. Power up of Atlantis for the Shuttle
Interface Test is estimated to occur during second shift tonight.
This test verifies all the critical connections between the
vehicle elements and the launch platform.
After assessing the scheduled work in the VAB, the target
for rolling Atlantis out to Launch Pad 39-B is no earlier than
12:01 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
In the last two days, technicians offloaded hypergolic
propellant from various areas of Discovery. Today workers will
make preparations for removing the two remaining main engines.
The engines will be taken to the VAB engine shop for post-flight
inspections and for replacement of several components. Actual
removal of the engines is planned for tomorrow. Discovery's
number one main engine will be shipped back to the manufacturer
for repairs to the main combustion chamber.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF
Power down modifications are underway including crew escape,
chin panel, improvements to the fuel cells and thermal protection
system upgrades.
STS-29 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF
Instrumentation on the left aft booster was calibrated
yesterday. The left aft center segment is scheduled to be
transferred to the VAB transfer aisle tomorrow as stacking
operations continue.
