KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - THURSDAY, OCT. 27, 1988
STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - VAB BAY 3
Atlantis was powered up at about 5 a.m. this morning in
preparation for the Shuttle Interface Test (SIT). This is a
comprehensive test of the critical connections between the
vehicle elements and the launch platform. The test is scheduled
to be complete on Sunday after which rollout preparations will
begin.
Engineers have evaluated the data from the injector plate on
one of Atlanits' main engines and have determined the
measurements are within specifications and are acceptable for
flight. The plate was measured for flatness.
Rollout of Atlantis is targeted for no earlier than 12:01
a.m. Monday, Oct. 31. The shuttle vehicle and launch platform
will slowly be carried out atop the crawler transporter to Launch
Pad 39-B where final launch preparations will occur.
STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
Technicians are moving platforms and gaining access to
remove the two main engines from Discovery. The engines are
scheduled to be removed tomorrow. Preparations are continuing to
remove the right hand orbital maneuvering system pod this
weekend.
Other operations scheduled today include: testing of the Ku-
band antenna, checkout of the main propulsion system helium
system and preparations for audio checks.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF
Orbiter return-to-flight modifications are continuing
including crew escape, the addition of tire pressure monitors,
elevon cove seal improvements and chin panel.
STS-29 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF
The left aft center segment was transferred to the VAB early
this morning and preparations are underway to attach the lifting
beam to the segment. Workers will inspect the segment prior to
hoisting it into the high bay for mating.
