KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - TUESDAY, NOV. 1, 1988
STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Preparations are underway today for rolling Atlantis out to
Launch Pad 39-B at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow.
Yesterday, technicians removed the piece of wire from the
left aft structural attach point - one of the three connection
points between the orbiter and the external tank. By yesterday
afternoon, technicians had reconnected the orbiter and tank at
that attach point, and by 5:30 p.m. the sling was removed from
the orbiter.
Today workers are finishing closeouts in the aft compartment
for the rollout and making minor repairs to the thermal
protection system on the external tank.
Atlantis' 4.2 mile long journey from the VAB to Launch Pad
39-B will take approximately six to seven hours and the shuttle
vehicle and launch platform are expected to be hard down on the
pad by 8 a.m. About two hours after hard down the Rotating
Service Structure will be moved in place around the orbiter.
STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
Testing of the orbiter's systems is continuing today
including checkout of the Ku-band antenna. Preparations are
underway to begin testing of the power reaction storage and
distribution system and the auxiliary power unit leak and
functional checks - both scheduled for later this week.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF
Power down modifications are continuing this week including
crew escape, elevon cove seal, fuel cell improvements, chin panel
and thermal protection system operations.
STS-29 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF
Today, the left aft center segment, currently in the VAB
transfer aisle, is scheduled to be hoisted up to allow inspection
of the tang. This segment is scheduled to be mated to the left
aft booster later this week. Final booster buildup operations are
underway on the right aft booster in the RPSF.
