With Tropical Storm Keith crusing across Florida, I have a question about potential damage to the craft. Can the Shuttle take a good hailstorm and not be damaged? (talking about golf ball sized hail) What about the ET and SRM's? Thanks. -- "What we have here is | Dave Vollman (HASA "S" Division "F" Battle Group) FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE" | AT&T Bell Laboratories - Struther Martin in | Naperville, IL "Cool Hand Luke" | ..!att!ihuxz!dwv

The orbiter on the pad is pretty well protected; in fact, one of the things that was done during the hiatus in flights was to add a set of weather-protection shields to pad 39B. (39A is out of service, possibly permanently unless demand picks up.) The SRBs and ET are less protected but much tougher. -- Sendmail is a bug, | Henry Spencer at U of Toronto Zoology not a feature. | uunet!attcan!utzoo!henry henry@zoo.toronto.edu
