yee@ames.arc.nasa.gov (Peter E. Yee) (11/26/88)

KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - WEDNESDAY, NOV. 23, 1988

                      STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - PAD 39-B

Operations for the ordnance installation part one were
completed last night. A purge of the power reactant storage and
distribution system tanks is underway today.

Closeouts of the aft compartment are underway. Some water
from Tropical Storm Keith intruded into the orbiter's aft
compartment. Dry air is being pumped into the compartment to help
absorb the water. Technicians are inspecting the different
components in the aft to determine if anything was affected by
the water. About five inches of rain fell on KSC overnight.

Atlantis is scheduled to be powered down at midnight tonight
for the holiday and will be powered back up Friday night for
final ordnance operations. Over the weekend closeouts of the aft
compartment will continue prior to picking up the launch
          countdown on Monday, Nov. 28.

Launch of STS-27, the third flight for the shuttle Atlantis,
remains scheduled for Dec. 1 with the launch period of 6:32 a.m.
          - 9:32 a.m. EST.

                       STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Operations are continuing to replace the flash evaporator
system - one of several heat rejection systems on the orbiter.
Thermal protection system operations are underway. Two of the
three main engines are scheduled to be installed next week. No
work is scheduled on Thanksgiving Day.

                     STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2

Orbiter modifications and thermal protection system
operations are continuing as scheduled. No work is planned
          Thanksgiving Day.

STS-29 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

The left forward assembly was mated to the left booster
yesterday. Joint leak checks and booster closeouts are active.
No work is scheduled over the four-day holiday weekend.
