KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT FOR - Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1988
STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
Power up testing of the orbiter is planned today. Yesterday
the payload bay doors were opened to allow for final vehicle
configuration for mission STS-29. A test of the orbiter's power
redundancy capabilities is one of the operations scheduled today.
Testing of the main propulsion system and midbody closeouts are
underway. Other activities scheduled today include, a functional
test of the waste containment system and thermal protection
system operations.
STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Today, the orbiter's power system is scheduled to be
validated, and post flight deconfiguration and inspections are
planned. Thermal protection system operations are continuing.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF
Return-to-flight modifications are continuing today.
Preparations are underway to deservice the orbiter's freon system
next week. The system is being deserviced to put the orbiter in
configuration for installing new thermal protection material
along the edges of payload bay doors.
STS-29 and STS-30 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF
Final preparations are underway to ready the STS-29 boosters
and tank for mating with the shuttle Atlantis later this month.
The left aft booster was stacked on mobile launcher platform
one yesterday. The left aft center segment is scheduled to be
stacked this weekend. Meanwhile, technicians are building up the
right aft booster in the Rotation Processing and Surge Facility.
