SPACE SHUTTLE MISSION 29 BACKGROUND BRIEFINGS SCHEDULED


     A series of pre-flight background briefings and a press 
conference with the astronaut crew for the upcoming STS-29 Space 
Shuttle mission are scheduled for January 11 at the NASA Johnson 
Space Center, Houston.

     Background briefings will include an overview of the flight 
given by Lead Flight Director Charles W. Shaw as well as 
briefings on the primary payload, TDRS-D satellite, secondary 
payloads and other mission objectives.

     The briefings will begin at 9 a.m. EST and should be 
completed by 5 p.m.  The crew press conference will begin at 
11:30 a.m.  

     Round robin interviews with the flight crew will be 
conducted the following day.  News media who wish to participate 
in these interviews should contact Jeffrey Carr at 713/483-5111.

     The briefings and astronaut press conference will be carried 
live on NASA Select television which can be accessed via Satcom 
F2R, transponder 13, 72 degrees west longitude.  Two-way question 
and answer capability with other NASA centers will be provided.
