KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - THURSDAY, JANUARY 5, 1989
STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
Redundancy testing of the orbiter's power systems began
yesterday and will continue today. Other processing activities
planned today include testing and checkout of the main propulsion
system, implementing orbiter modifications for the Galileo
mission, and thermal protection system activities.
After assessing the amount of work left to do in the
processing facility, it was determined that a few extra days are
needed in the schedule. Discovery is now scheduled to be rolled
to the Vehicle Assembly Building on Jan. 18.
STS-30 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Post-flight deconfiguration activities and checks of the
orbiter's electrical systems are planned today. Technicians are
removing heat shields from around the orbiter's main engines in
preparation for engine removal later today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile, tile technicians are continuing to repair the thermal
protection system.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF
Orbiter modifications and thermal protection system
activities are continuing as scheduled.
STS-29 and STS-30 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF
Closeouts of the field joints on the STS-29 solid rocket
boosters are active today.
Meanwhile, stacking the STS-30 boosters is well underway.
The left aft center segment is scheduled to be transferred to the
VAB transfer aisle today where stacking preparations will begin.
