KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - FRIDAY, JANUARY 13, 1989
STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
Orbiter processing operations are underway today to support
transferring Discovery to the Vehicle Assembly Building next
week. Those operations include the helium signature leak check of
the main propulsion system, closeouts of the midbody and thermal
protection system activities.
This weekend, the helium signature test is scheduled to be
completed and final closure of the payload bay doors is planned.
A functional test of the landing gear and a positive pressure
structural leak check of the orbiter are scheduled next week
prior to the VAB rollover.
STS-27 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Orbiter systems testing is continuing on schedule today as
part of the turnaround activities to prepare Atlantis for the
planned April launch.
Technicians are filling and bleeding the hydraulic system
and testing the air data probes and the power reactant storage
and distribution system. Testing of the forward reaction control
system and the auxiliary power units has been completed.
Technicians are also repairing damaged tiles.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OMRF
Workers are scheduled to begin purging the freon coolant
loops to configure the system for the replacement of thermal
material on the edges of the payload bay doors. Orbiter
modifications are underway. Columbia will be transferred to OPF
bay 1 a few days after Discovery is towed to the VAB next week.
STS-29 and STS-30 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
Closeouts of the STS-29 boosters and tank are continuing to
prepare for the orbiter mating operation.
Booster stacking operations for the STS-30 mission are
continuing in the VAB high bay and in the transfer aisle.
