           KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT  - FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, 1989


                     STS-29  -  DISCOVERY (OV 103)  -  OPF BAY 1

               Preparations are continuing to move Discovery from the
          Orbiter Processing Facility to the Vehicle Assembly Building at
          12:01 a.m. Sunday. The payload bay doors were closed last night
          and the landing gear struts have been serviced.

               Today, tile technicians are scheduled to continue bonding
          tiles to the orbiter and the payload bay doors. Closeouts of the
          aft compartment are also continuing in preparation for the move.
          Once in the VAB transfer aisle, Discovery will be hoisted up with
          an overhead crane and positioned in between the tank and
          boosters.


                     STS-30  -  ATLANTIS (0V 104)  -  OPF BAY 2

               Systems testing of the orbiter Atlantis has continued this
          week. Operations scheduled today include leak and functional
          tests of the auxiliary power units, payload bay operations,
          preparations to check out the left hand orbital maneuvering
          system pod and removal of the remote manipulating system.


                        STS-28  -  COLUMBIA (OV 102)  -  OMRF

               Technicians are preparing the orbiter Columbia for the move
          to OPF bay 1 on Sunday evening. While in the OPF, Columbia will
          be powered up for check out of the newly modified systems.


                   STS-29 AND STS-30 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS  -  VAB

               Final closeouts are underway on the STS-29 tank and boosters
          in preparation for mating with the orbiter Discovery on Sunday.

               Preparations are underway to stack the left forward segment
          to the STS-30 stack this weekend.
