KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1989
STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - VAB
All three oxidizer turbo pumps have been removed from the
orbiter. Testing of the new pumps is in progress this week at the
Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Delivery of the new pumps is
expected next week.
Workers at the pad are making preparations for the pre-
launch propellant load activity scheduled this weekend. This
operation includes loading hydrazine into Discovery's auxiliary
power units and the solid rocket boosters' hydraulic power units.
Monomethylhydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide will be loaded into
Discovery's reaction control system and orbital maneuvering
system storage tanks. The payload bay doors are scheduled to be
closed today for the hyper load operation.
The Tracking and Data Relay Satellite and its Inertial Upper
Stage were installed in the payload bay Monday. Communications
checks were completed yesterday between the pad and the IUS
checkout station on the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Those
checks are in preparation for payload testing next week.
STS-30 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Workers have installed two main engines and are scheduled to
install the third engine today. Preparations are underway to
service the orbiter's ammonia boilers this weekend. Thermal
protection system operations are continuing and the cavity count
was at 60 this morning.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 1
Power up testing of Columbia is continuing today. Checks of
the main propulsion system and the communications and navigations
systems are planned.
STS-30 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
Technicians are leveling the right aft center segment in
preparation for mating to the right aft booster. Meanwhile,
technicians in the RPSF are preparing the right forward segment
for stacking.
