KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1989
STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - VAB
Workers at the pad are making preparations for the pre-
launch propellant load activity scheduled this weekend. This
operation includes loading hydrazine into Discovery's auxiliary
power units and the solid rocket boosters' hydraulic power units.
Monomethylhydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide will be loaded into
Discovery's reaction control system and orbital maneuvering
system storage tanks. The payload bay doors were closed last
night for the hyper load operation.
Testing of the new pumps is in progress this week at the
Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. The first new pump is
expected on Monday. New pumps will go through receiving
inspections prior to installation on the engines. Installation of
the three pumps and the associated testing is scheduled to be
completed prior to the end of this month.
Tests of the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite and its
Inertial Upper Stage are scheduled next week in parallel with
pump installation activities.
STS-30 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Workers have installed all three main engines and are
scheduled to electrically connect the engines to the orbiter
today. Preparations are underway to service the orbiter's ammonia
boilers this weekend. Thermal protection system operations are
continuing.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 1
Power up testing of Columbia is continuing today. Checks of
the main propulsion system and the communications and navigations
systems are planned. Technicians are servicing the freon cooling
loops.
STS-30 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
Yesterday, the right aft center segment was mated to the
right aft booster. The right forward center segment and the right
forward assembly were moved into the VAB transfer aisle and are
being inspected.
