KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - FRIDAY, FEB. 17, 1989
STS-29 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - PAD 39-B
Technicians are securing the three oxidizer turbo pumps on
the main engines today. Connections between the pumps will be
leak checked. Next week, the heat shields will be reinstalled and
a test will be conducted to cycle the main engine valves and the
orbiter's aerosurfaces. A helium signature leak test of the main
propulsion system is scheduled for next weekend.
The payload end-to-end test, currently underway, verifies
communications capabilities between ground stations and the
TDRS/IUS. Yesterday, a test of the OASIS instrumentation in the
payload bay was conducted.
STS-30 - ATLANTIS (0V 104) - OPF BAY 2
Tires for the nose landing gear were installed yesterday.
Two of the four tires for the main landing gear will be arriving
in the OPF today and installed overnight. The other two tires for
the main gear are scheduled to be installed over the weekend.
Heat shields are being installed around the three main engines.
Closeouts of the payload bay are underway. Thermal protection
system operations are continuing. The payload bay doors will be
closed to allow tile operations on the hinges.
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 1
Power up testing is continuing. Checkout of the main
propulsion system is continuing. A test of the external tank
doors is underway today. Technicians are filling and bleeding the
orbiter's hydraulic system and bonding tiles. Return-to-flight
modifications are continuing.
STS-30 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
The right forward segment, the last motor segment for the
STS-30 set, was mated early this morning and a leak check of the
joint is scheduled later today. The right forward assembly is
scheduled to be stacked this weekend. The external tank is
scheduled to be mated to the boosters late next week.
