[sci.space.shuttle] Northern Lights

lfoard@wpi.wpi.edu (Lawrence C Foard) (03/15/89)

Do solar flares cause trouble for shuttle mission, or is the shuttle in to low
an orbit to have problems? Something fairly spectacular must be happening on
the sun, lastnight I could see the Northern lights in Worcester MA. (a city
with enough light pollution to read by), Shortwave radio broadcasts where also
almost completely dead. It must have looked pretty amazing from space with
the sky turning various colors all the way from the poles down into America.
Was this the mission that an Omni Max camera was flying on? If so they should
have some interesting pictures.
