Well, I've tried Don's code, and it really works, and it really is a lot faster than ``ordinary'' dump. But I think I'll keep mine for now. It doesn't do much better (and it's occasionally even worse) than his on the 780 with its TU78, but it makes the TU80 on the 750 stream at 100 ips; Don's make the TU80 stream, but (at least for me---we have an RA81) it stays at 25 ips except for an occasional two block write or so. (I also use less CPU time, though that's not important when the machine is down anyway.) Overall, they run about the same on the 780, and about 1:2 on the 750.* Of course, his changes are a whole heck of a lot easier to install... --------- *Be forewarned, all of my timings were done in a less than rigorous manner. I think all I can realy say is that I have the advantage on TU80s. -- (This line accidently left nonblank.)
