KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT FOR - WEDNESDAY, MAY 10, 1989
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 1
Technicians are finishing up the installation process for
the left orbital maneuvering system pod. Interface testing of the
OMS pods is scheduled this week.
Other scheduled work includes servicing the auxiliary power
units with water and testing the Ku-band antenna. Tile
technicians are continuing to bond tiles and thermal blankets.
This morning, 224 cavities were reported.
Columbia is scheduled to remain in bay 1 until late June
when it will be transferred to the VAB for mating with its
external tank and solid rocket boosters.
STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 2
Technicians are preparing Discovery for its roll to the OMRF
on Thursday at 12 p.m. The pressure in the tires has been checked
and the payload bay doors have been closed. Today, pressure in
the landing gear struts will be checked and the payload bay door
strongbacks will be removed. Discovery is being transferred to
the OMRF to make room for Atlantis this weekend. Discovery will
be transferred to bay 1 when Columbia goes to the VAB in June.
STS-30 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - HANGAR AF
Workers are preparing the boosters for disassembly today.
The aft boosters are scheduled to be removed today and taken
inside the hangar. The boosters will be disassembled and shipped
back to Morton Thiokol for refurbishment and reloading with
propellant.
STS-28 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
Yesterday, the right forward segment was lifted in the
transfer aisle for pre-mate inspections. The last motor segment
is scheduled to be pinned to the stack by tomorrow afternoon. The
right forward assembly is scheduled to be stacked later this week
which will complete the stacking operations for this set of
boosters. Joint closeouts are active.
STS-34 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - RPSF
Technicians are building up the right and left aft boosters
in the Rotation Processing and Surge Facility.
