KSC SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT -- TUESDAY, MAY 30, 1989
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) -- OPF BAY 1
The Crew Equipment Interface Test went well over the weekend. On
Sunday and Monday the STS-28 crew went aboard the orbiter to be-
come familiar with switches, panels, and other items for the up-
coming flight. Launch Director Bob Sieck passed the word to
processing workers that the crew felt the vehicle "looked
good" and reflected the hours of painstaking work.
Crew members will return on June 6 for a traditional "sharp edge"
walkdown. The walkdown--basically a safety-oriented "good
housekeeping" effort--is done so that the crew can look for pos-
sible sharp edges, protuberances, or items that could be stowed
or installed in a better way.
Tile work continues to go well, with 98 cavities remaining.
Powered-up testing, including main propulsion system end-
to-end testing, will continue throughout most of the week. The
helium signature leak check, targeted for Wednesday, may run
slightly behind schedule due to time required to complete all
preparations, including pre-test checks.
Items completed include radar altimeter checks, hydraulics aero
surface, and crew hatch leak check. The Ku-band antenna testing
is scheduled for completion this week.
STS-28 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
This morning, the mated external tank and solid rocket boosters
will be moved from VAB High Bay 1 to High Bay 3. Early this
morning, the crawler-transporter was being moved into position.
STS-34 ATLANTIS (OV 104) OPF BAY 2
All three main engines have been removed. Over the holiday
weekend, Startracker functional tests were performed, and APU
lube oil offload was completed.
STS-34 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - RPSF
More ultrasonics testing has been completed on booster segments.
Routine buildup work continues.
STS-33 DISCOVERY - OMRF
A TACAN fit check is scheduled for tomorrow. Structural inspec-
tions are continuing.
