KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - TUESDAY, JUNE 20, 1989
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 1
Technicians replaced a seal between the main combustion
chamber and the high pressure fuel turbopump on main engine
number 1. Leak checks of that seal passed, however, another leak
has been discovered at a bearing cap on the fuel pump. The cap
will be pulled today and the sealing surfaces will be checked for
scratches.
Functional checkout and calibration of the inertial
measurement units is scheduled today. Structural leak checks are
being conducted on the orbital maneuvering system pods today. A
leak test of the forward fuselage has been successfully
conducted.
Technicians are cleaning the payload bay and installing
thermal blankets in the orbiter's midbody as part of orbiter
closeout operations. Technicians are continuing to bond tiles
with the cavity count this morning at 25. Eighteen of those
cavities are on the payload bay doors.
Columbia's target date for tow to the Vehicle Assembly
Building is no earlier than June 30. While in the VAB, Columbia
will be mated with its external tank and solid rocket boosters.
STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2
Functional tests are planned this week for the waste
containment system and the auxiliary power units.
STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OMRF
Power down work scheduled this week includes wiring and
instrumentation improvements and modification of the crew seats
to allow more room for the crew when they wear the partial
pressure suits. Discovery will be transferred to bay 1 when
Columbia is moved to the VAB.
STS-28 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
Closeouts of the boosters and tank are underway in
preparation for mating with the orbiter Columbia.
STS-34 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF
The left forward center segment was lifted last night and
preparations are underway to mate it with the stack. Inspections
of the clevis and tang are in work. Meanwhile, technicians are
readying other STS-34 segments in the RPSF.
