[net.unix-wizards] Any good protection ideas?

tom@gangue.uucp (S. Tom Strange) (01/08/85)

Please don't flame me for this! The reason that I am in
this newsgroup is because I'm counting on the wide range of
subjects that you folks seem to be familiar with.

We develop software for a variety of machines, from the PC Class
on up to large mainframes. We are looking for a good protection
scheme that is hardware and operating system independent, if there
is such an animal. We write our code almost exclusively in "C" , however
we also work some with FORTRAN 77.

On the larger systems, there is (almost) always a gethostid() or
similar call, but the IBM PC makers seem to have neatly avoided the
cost of adding an id prom.

If anyone out there has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Please respond by email rather than posting to the net.

Thanks very much

Tom Strange
