[sci.space.shuttle] Shuttle Status for 07/11/89

yee@trident.arc.nasa.gov (Peter E. Yee) (07/15/89)

KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - TUESDAY, JULY 11, 1989

                        STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - VAB

Overnight, technicians replaced the aft integrated
electronics assembly on the right hand solid rocket booster.
During the shuttle interface test (SIT) yesterday, the IEA was
giving erroneous data. After troubleshooting, the problem was
isolated to the right aft IEA. The IEA contains all the
electronics for the booster. While the IEA was replaced, the SIT
test was put on hold and is scheduled to pick back up today.
Connections between the tank, boosters and launch platform will
be verified during this test. Tile operations are continuing in
          parallel with the SIT.

Columbia's rollout is currently targeted for no earlier than
12:01 a.m. Friday, July 14. The countdown dress rehearsal test
(TCDT) with the STS-28 flight crew and launch team is scheduled
to begin at 8 a.m. Monday, July 17 and will culminate with a
simulated engine cutoff at 11 a.m. July 18.

                      STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2

Preparations are underway for testing the three main engines
tonight. Heat shields are scheduled to be installed around the
main engines later this week. Operations continuing today include
a functional check of the waste containment system and structural
          inspections including x-rays.

Preparations are underway to install two getaway canisters
containing an experiment package called Shuttle Solar Backscatter
Ultraviolet Scientific Payload (SSBUV). The experiment is designed
to provide an accurate long term set of atmospheric ozone and
solar irradiance data by checking the calibration of the ozone
          sounders on satellites.

                       STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OMRF

Discovery is scheduled to be transferred from the OMRF to
OPF bay 1 today. Once in the OPF, technicians will establish
access to the vehicle and power up testing is scheduled to begin
          next week.

                       STS-34 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF

Stacking operations are continuing on a non-interference
basis to the STS-28 shuttle mating activities. The right forward
center segment is scheduled to be transferred to the VAB today
for mating preparations. The mate will occur after the STS-28
          vehicle rolls to the pad.
