KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - THURSDAY, JULY 20, 1989

                  STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - LAUNCH PAD 39-B

The helium signature leak test of the main propulsion system
was completed last night. Today, technicians will remove part of
a line in the main propulsion system helium system for main
engine number one. That line was welded in the aft compartment
several months ago. During the welding process, impurities got in
causing corrosion. Corrosion was also found in one of the helium
regulators. That regulator has been sent to the vendor and a new
          one will be installed.

Preparations are underway for loading hypergolic propellants
into Columbia's onboard storage tanks. The pad will be cleared at
about 4 p.m. today, just prior to the actual loading process.
Monomethylhydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide will be loaded in the
tanks for the reaction control system and the orbital maneuvering
system pods. In addition, hydrazine will be loaded into the
orbiter's auxiliary power units and the boosters' hydraulic power
units. This activity will take several days to complete.

                      STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2

Last night, two beams were installed for the getaway special
payload called Shuttle Solar Backscatter Ultraviolet Scientific
Payload (SSBUV). Installation is planned for Saturday.
Preparations are underway to fill and bleed the hydraulic
system. After fill and bleed operations, the nose wheel steering
system will be checked out, the brake anti-skid system will be
tested and a test of the orbiter's aerosurfaces is planned.
Technicians are continuing to install heat shields around the
          three main engines.

                     STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Power up operations and systems testing are planned today.
Checkout of the communications system is planned and testing of
the power reactant storage and distribution system is underway.

                       STS-34 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF

The right forward segment was pinned to the stack early this
morning. Stacking of the right forward assembly is scheduled for
          tomorrow evening.

The external tank is scheduled to be mated to the boosters
          next Friday.
