KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - FRIDAY, JULY 21, 1989

                  STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - LAUNCH PAD 39-B

Launch Pad 39-B has been closed for the loading of
hypergolic propellants into Columbia's onboard storage tanks.
Monomethylhydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide will be loaded in the
tanks for the reaction control system and the orbital maneuvering
system pods. In addition, hydrazine will be loaded into the
orbiter's auxiliary power units and the boosters' hydraulic power
units. This weekend, a hot fire of the orbiter's auxiliary power
units and boosters' hydraulic power units is planned. Propellant
loading and the hot fires will take several days to complete.

Last night, technicians removed a small part of a line in
the main propulsion system helium system for main engine number
one. Corrosion was found in the line and also in one of the
helium regulators. That regulator has been sent to the vendor and
a new one will be installed. Reinstallation of new parts is
planned after the hypergolic loading operations. Engineers are
troubleshooting the source of the contamination.

KSC center managers met today for the standard pre-launch
Launch Readiness Review to determine the readiness of the center
to support the STS-28 launch. Today's review concluded this
morning shortly after 11 a.m. and all elements are ready to
support launch pending the completion of planned work. The Flight
Readiness Review will be held July 25-26 here at KSC after which
an official launch date will be announced.

                      STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2

Orbiter hydraulic operations are planned over the next
couple days including fill and bleed of the hydraulic system,
checkout of the nose wheel steering system, a test of the brake
anti-skid system, and a test of the orbiter's aerosurfaces.
Technicians are continuing to install heat shields around the
          three main engines.

                     STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Power up operations and systems testing are planned today.
Checkout of the communications system is planned and testing of
the power reactant storage and distribution system is underway.

                       STS-34 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF

Joint closeouts are active on all booster field joints.
Stacking of the right forward assembly is scheduled for tonight.
The external tank is scheduled to be mated to the boosters next
          Friday.
