KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - THURSDAY, JULY 27, 1989

                  STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - LAUNCH PAD 39-B

Technicians at Launch Pad 39-B are busy welding in two
valves in the aft compartment for the main propulsion system
helium system. A new line was brazed in earlier this week and a
filter was replaced. A new helium regulator will be installed
after the welding activities are completed. These components are
being replaced because of contamination found in the system
several weeks ago. An engine frequency response test is planned
for Monday to cycle valves and check out acutators.

In the last couple of days, engineers have determined that a
fuel isolation valve on auxiliary power unit (APU) number 2 is
working properly and will pose no threat to flight. The valve
indicator was not identifying whether the valve was open or
closed earlier this week. The valve is one of two between the
hydrazine fuel tank and the APU.

Yesterday, after the two-day Flight Readiness Review, NASA
set a launch date of August 8 for STS-28, with a launch period of
          7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. eastern time.

                      STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2

Preparations are underway for installation of the left
orbital maneuvering system pod. Technicians have replaced
dynatubes and thrusters at the Hypergolic Maintenance Facility
since the pod was removed several weeks ago. The pod is scheduled
to be delivered to the OPF this morning and installation is
planned for third shift. Checkout of the water spray boilers is
continuing this week. Installation of thermal control system
blankets on the aft bulkhead is underway.

                     STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Power up operations and systems testing are planned today. A
voltage test of the fuel cells is planned for today and tomorrow
and a functional check of the forward reaction control system is
continuing. Modifications and tile work are underway. Testing of
the Ku-band antenna is planned next week.

                       STS-34 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB/RPSF

Joint closeouts are active on all booster field joints.
Mating of the external tank to the boosters is scheduled for this
          weekend.
