KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - FRIDAY, AUG. 4, 1989

                  STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - LAUNCH PAD 39-B

Final ordnance connections and checks of the circuitry have
been completed and the pad was reopened for normal work at about
          1:30 p.m. yesterday

Closeouts of the orbiter's aft compartment are underway.
Closeouts include pre-flight inspections of all components,
installation of thermal blankets for the avionics, taking
closeout photos of the aft and installation of gas samplers in
the aft compartment. Closeouts are scheduled for today and
          Saturday.

Shuttle managers continue to monitor Hurricane Dean which
has not moved a significant amount in the last 24 hours.
Indications that it might make a "right turn" are still in
effect, which could eliminate it as a factor of STS-28 launch
planning. The main focus at KSC is to button up the shuttle for
launch on Tuesday. Forecasters are predicting a 10-20 percent
chance of violation of launch commit criteria on Tuesday.

Launch countdown preparations are underway. The countdown is
scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. eastern time Saturday morning
and the STS-28 flight crew members will be arriving at KSC's
Shuttle Landing Facility at about 4 p.m. that afternoon. Launch
of Columbia on mission STS-28 is scheduled for Tuesday, August 8
          with a launch period of 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. eastern time.

                      STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2

An electrical redundancy test of the OMS and FRCS is
continuing today. Cleaning of the main propulsion system is
underway to prepare for the helium signature leak test of the
main engines this weekend to be followed by a test of the
orbiter's aerosurfaces. Schedulers are targeting to move Atlantis
to the Vehicle Assembly Building in about two weeks.

                     STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Power up operations and systems testing are planned today.
Preparations for a functional test of the external tank doors are
underway today. The radiators were stowed for testing of the Ku-
band antenna today. Modifications and tile work are underway.
Operations scheduled today include, testing of the waste
containment system, inspections of thermal blankets and leak
          checks of the helium system.

                  STS-34 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS/EXTERNAL TANK - VAB

Closeouts of the STS-34 external tank and solid rocket
boosters are underway this week. Electrical connections have been
          completed on the aft strut.

STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - RPSF

Buildup of the left and right aft boosters for the STS-33
mission is continuing at the Rotation Processing and Surge
Facility. The external tank attach rings are being installed on
both aft boosters. Stacking is scheduled to begin later this
          month.
