           KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - WEDNESDAY, AUG. 16, 1989

                      STS-34  -  ATLANTIS (OV 104) - OPF BAY 2

               Technicians finished cleaning the payload bay yesterday and
          the doors were closed for the roll about 8:30 p.m. last night.
          The payload bay door strongbacks are being removed today.
          Structural leak checks of the orbital maneuvering system pods and
          forward reaction control system were completed yesterday. Today,
          structural leak checks of the aft compartment are planned.  This
          morning, 11 tile cavities were reported.

               Schedulers are targeting to move Atlantis to the Vehicle
          Assembly Building no earlier than Sunday, August 20. A specific
          time will be determined toward the end of the week. Atlantis is
          scheduled to be in the VAB about eight days before being
          transferred to Launch Pad 39-B. While in the VAB, Atlantis will
          be bolted to its solid rocket boosters and external tank.

                     STS-33  -  DISCOVERY (OV 103)  -  OPF BAY 1

               Power up operations and systems testing are planned today.
          Modifications and tile work are underway. Operations scheduled
          this week include testing of the waste containment system and the
          Ku-band antenna system. Preparations for installation of the main
          landing gear wheel and tire assemblies are underway.

                  STS-34 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS/EXTERNAL TANK - VAB

               Closeouts of the STS-34 external tank and solid rocket
          boosters are underway this week. Cable tray covers are being
          closed out for flight. Orbiter mate preparations will begin later
          this week.

                         STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - RPSF

               The left aft booster for the STS-33 mission has been stacked
          on mobile launcher platform 2 in high bay 3 and today
          technicians are hooking up the T-zero connections.

                      STS-28 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - HANGAR AF

               Disassembly operations are continuing today at Hangar AF on
          Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The segments will be sent back to
          the Morton Thiokol plant in Utah for refurbishment.
