KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - MONDAY, AUG. 21, 1989
STS-28 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - DFRF
Columbia and the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft arrived at KSC
today at about 11:42 a.m. eastern time. Demating activities are
scheduled this afternoon and the orbiter is scheduled to be towed
to the Orbiter Processing Facility early tomorrow morning. The
vehicle departed Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Georgia
earlier today after an overnight stay. Adverse weather in the KSC
area prevented the vehicle from coming in yesterday. Columbia
left Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. yesterday morning and made a
refueling stop at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.
STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - VAB
Atlantis was transferred from the Orbiter Processing
Facility to the Vehicle Assembly Building transfer aisle at about
3:45 a.m. today. The sling has been attached and the vehicle has
been lifted horizontally to allow inspections of the landing gear
and landing gear door closure. The orbiter will be lifted
vertically tonight and carefully positioned next to the external
tank. Atlantis is scheduled to be "hard mated" to the tank
tomorrow.
Atlantis is scheduled to be in the VAB about eight days
before being transferred to Launch Pad 39-B.
STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1
Two of three main engines have been installed and
preparations are underway to install the right orbital
maneuvering system pod tomorrow. Other activities scheduled today
include installation of auxiliary power unit controllers,
preparations to install the galley, orbiter modifications and
thermal protection system operations.
STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB
The left aft center segment was mated on Saturday. The left
forward center segment will be transferred to the VAB in the next
few days for mating preparations. Booster stacking operations
will continue on a non-interference basis with the STS-34 orbiter
mating activities.
