KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - MONDAY, AUG. 28, 1989

                         STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - VAB

Portions of the Shuttle Interface Test were conducted this
past weekend, verifying critical connections between the vehicle
elements and launch platform. Preparations for Atlantis' 4.2
mile journey to Launch Pad 39-B are underway. Platforms will be
retracted today, and later this evening, the crawler transporter
will be positioned underneath the mobile launcher platform. First
motion of the STS-34 vehicle is planned for 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.
The vehicle is expected to be "harddown" on the pad's pedestals
at about 8 a.m. tomorrow. Launch pad validations will commence
once the vehicle arrives at the pad.

Galileo and its Inertial Upper Stage payload are scheduled
to be installed in the payload bay this week.

                     STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Activities scheduled today include leak and functional
testing of the auxiliary power units, functional checks of the
waste containment system, leak checks of the main propulsion
system and main engines, orbiter modifications, and thermal
protection system operations. Technicians have installed eyelids
and dome heat shields around engines one and three. Engine number
2 is scheduled to arrive tomorrow and will be installed this
week. The nose landing gear wheels and tire assemblies were
          installed this weekend.

                       STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2

Heatshields are scheduled to be removed from around the main
engines this week, to be followed by engine removal. They will be
taken to the VAB main engine shop for post-flight inspections and
for the replacement of several components. Also scheduled this
week are removal of the flight tires, leak and functional testing
of the main propulsion system, sniff checks of valves in the
orbital maneuvering system and reaction control system. The
payload bay doors are scheduled to be opened today for post-
          flight deconfiguration.

STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

The left forward center segment was mated to the stack. The
right aft booster was brought into the VAB and has been
positioned on the launch platform. Later today, technicians will
          calibrate aft booster instrumentation.
