KSC SPACE SHUTTLE PROCESSING REPORT - WEDNESDAY, AUG. 30, 1989

                       STS-34 - ATLANTIS (OV 104) - PAD 39-B

Atlantis was transferred to Launch Pad 39-B yesterday with
first motion at 2:02 a.m. The vehicle was reported "harddown" on
the pad by 9:37 a.m. yesterday and the Rotating Service Structure
was moved into place around the vehicle. Power up occurred at
about 2 a.m. this morning. The payload bay doors were opened at
about 3 a.m. and installation of the Galileo and its Inertial
Upper Stage payload began on time at about 8 a.m. today. It will
take all of first shift to install the payload. Tomorrow and
Friday, technicians will electrically and mechanically mate the
          payload to the orbiter.

                     STS-33 - DISCOVERY (OV 103) - OPF BAY 1

Activities scheduled today include installation of the last
main engine in the number two position, leak and functional
checks of the waste containment system, leak checks of the main
propulsion system, orbiter modifications and thermal protection
system operations. A brake anti-skid test and a nose wheel
steering test are planned tomorrow. The landing gear functional
          test is scheduled Friday.

                       STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV 102) - OPF BAY 2

Heatshields are being removed from around the main engines
this week to be followed by engine removal. They will be taken to
the VAB main engine shop for post-flight inspections and for the
replacement of several components. Also scheduled this week are
removal of the flight tires, leak and functional testing of the
main propulsion system, validation of the electrical system,
sniff checks of valves in the orbital maneuvering system and
reaction control system. The payload bay doors have been opened
          for post-flight deconfiguration.

STS-33 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB

The left forward segment is in the VAB and preparations to
lift it over the stack are underway. Plans are to stack the left
forward assembly/nose cone by Saturday and cease stacking for the
Labor Day holiday weekend. Next Tuesday, workers would begin
preparations to stack the right aft center segment.
